The Ontario government has released a new policy framework to protect children from becoming victims of sex trafficking.
The province is investing $2.4 million in training and resources, to help staff and school boards recognize, identify, respond and prevent sex trafficking of kids and youth.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce made the announcement this morning.
The effort outlines actions school boards need to take to protect students, including raising awareness about the issue, supporting students who are at risk, and establishing approaches for accountability and evaluation.
The initiative is inline with the province's Anti-Human Trafficking Strategy, which is an action plan designed to combat human trafficking and child sexual exploitation.
This is the second press conference in as many days Lecce has made, where he didn't address plans for a safe return to schools in September.
