The province has announced an investment of $8.2 million to expand the Community Paramedicine for Long-Term Care program in Niagara.
The initiative is designed to help seniors on long-term care waitlists live in their own homes for longer periods.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff, who made the announcement today, says this is good news for local seniors.
"This substantial provincial investment will help provide care to many in the community, and ensure seniors are able to be supported and age in place where possible. I am grateful for the daily leadership of Niagara's EMS as they provide excellent care and responses to the people of the peninsula."
The Community Paramedicine program provides services to seniors waiting for placement in a long-term care home or who are soon to be eligible for long-term care.
At the moment, it serves 50 to 70 new patients every month in Niagara.
Services the program provides include 24/7 access to in-person and remote health care, education about managing chronic diseases, and monitoring of health conditions.
