Reports say the $160-million in skills training funding will support programs for people on social assistance and those with criminal records.
ONTARIO - The Ford Government is about to announce $160-million in funding for skills training programs, geared toward people on social assistance and those with criminal records.
This will be the fourth round of funding through the Skills Development Fund, bringing the total over $860-million with 596 projects supported. Labour Minister Monte McNaughton says at least 1,000 people will be able to receive free training for various trades.
McNaughton is set to hold a press conference at 10:00 a.m. today in Dresden. He says one million people in Ontario have a criminal record with most of them for non-violent and petty crimes. He adds half of them are on social assistance, even 15 years after being released.
