Niagara MP Fred Davies has started a petition
The push to get the federal sex offender registry public is gaining more momentum.
Local advocate Steven Soos says Niagara South MP Fred Davies has put together a petition, asking the Liberal government to get this done.
He adds this is happening despite people telling him it'll never work. "There are some folks who think that it's going to be harder for a sex offender to integrate back into the community, but they should've thought of that before they committed such a heinous crime. We have a right to know where these dangerous people are."
He adds all but two Niagara cities and towns support this idea so far.
"We spoke to Niagara on the Lake, and they referred it to town staff, they're going to come back with something, and the Niagara Region, where we're waiting for movement."
He says much of this initiated following the sexual assault of a 3-year old Welland girl.
