Racetrack operators want to make sure the industry is protected if Ottawa allows single sports betting
Right now in Canada, the only single bets that can be made are on horse racing.
But the horse racing industry fears any change in the rules will see more offshore gambling websites encroaching on their turf.
Racetracks of Canada says they are concerned their market share will shrink over time and they want additional protections included in the proposed bill to allow single sports betting, to ensure they maintain gambling revenues.
The organization is asking Ottawa to legalize historical horse racing betting that would allow gamblers to wager on past races.
So how does that work?
Players basically bet blindly, they don't know what race they are wagering on until they lock in their bet.
