The Region is backing the Niagara Community Legal Clinic. It's funded by Legal Aid Ontario, which saw about $17-million in provincial funding cuts this year.
There have also been indications from the province, that an additional $17.3-million could be cut from Legal Aid’s budget in 2020.
Regional Council heard two delegations about that matter at their meeting last night.
They passed a motion afterwards, directing Regional Chair Jim Bradley to send a letter to Ontario Attorney General Doug Downey.
He's going to request that the province not implement anymore funding cuts and reinvest in Legal Aid.
