Road Quality on P.C. Mayor's Agenda

Bill Steele was recently at the Ontario Good Roads Conference, looking at pavement technology

City of Port Colborne looking to address a constant thorn in the side of municipal governments, no matter where you are.... condition of area roads.

The mayor, along with a team of three others, checked out new technology that would make roads last longer.

Bill Steele was at the Ontario Good Roads conference in Toronto, talking of road safety, delivering maintenance with cost and time savings, and enhancing a road's endurance.  "Crack less, there's new technology that as you build it it's a little bit different today than it may have been 5 to 10 years ago, so that as you move forward the money you spent on those roads, actually saves money for the municipality on the maintenance."

The mayor says there were many meetings taking place, and not just about roads.  There was one called Enhancement in Pavement Preservation.

"Sounds kinda dull probably to the normal person, but, quite frankly, as we're spending millions of dollars a year on repaving roads, and putting in new roads, these types of enhancements in pavement can help us in the long run where roads last longer," he says.

They also discussed affordable housing for Port Colborne, as well as industrial and commercial development and the marine strategy the province is putting together.
