Niagara Medical Group making sure people get help needed when navigating system
A Niagara Medical Group is working to make sure patients find medication, get to doctor appointments, and overall understand who to talk to about health concerns.
Executive Director of Niagara Health Family Medical Frank Ruberto says they have System Navigators, people who help those with financial concerns, or even housing problems.
He adds it's greater in-depth work to help people. "Respectfully understanding that your social health affects your physical health. So, if we can help reduce the barriers in the social aspects, then we can help you focus on the health problems that you have."
He says people are grateful for helping with filling out forms, explaining processes, and follow-up.
"To understand some of their social needs, their language of preference, their ethnic background, also transportation capabilities."
He says System Navigators are also meant to help new doctors recruited to Niagara.
