The union representing LCBO workers has filed an official objection to an application by the convenience store chain that would allow 61 of its stores to serve alcohol
Eight of those stores are in Niagara including, Grimsby, Welland, Port Colborne, Niagara Falls and St. Catharines.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union says stores should not be allowed to serve alcohol as if they were a restaurant or bar.
In a media release, OPSEU President Warren 'Smokey' Thomas noting, "7-Eleven says it's trying to make its stores into restaurants where alcohol can be served, but we all know the truth: kids and teens will find themselves shoulder-to-shoulder with intoxicated people washing down a Twinkie with a six pack."
Ontario residents have until March 11th to give feedback on the application to The Ontario Alcohol and Gaming Commission.
