Mayor Marvin Junkin read his idea to remove the flag, over US tariffs and trade woes, this morning to council
The American flag will remain at the Meridian Community Centre in Pelham.
Prior to reading his motion this morning at council to remove the flag, Mayor Marvin Junkin explained why he attempted it. "After receiving numerous requests from our residents over the last year."
He then read the motion, with talk of US tariffs, but also taking over Canada and renaming Lake Ontario. "And whereas, if viewed singularly, each of the above could be said to be a minor irritant. But, when viewed as a whole, they are very insulting, and greatly offensive to Canadians."
He continued. "Imposed 50% tariffs on certain products of Canadian greenhouse industry, making these companies unsustainable, and placing their very existence in doubt, which is causing direct harm to the residents of Pelham."
He then turned to his council.
When he did, he couldn't get anyone to 2nd the motion, for discussion, and that defeated the idea.
Part of the motion explained this wasn't directed at the American people, and the flag would be returned as soon as a mutually beneficial trade deal is signed.
