Only eight votes separated winner Brian Grant over incumbent mayor Kevin Gibson.
The Township of Wainfleet will count 29 more ballots tonight in the race for mayor.
Officials say 29 ballots that were submitted by electors before voting closed were not processed and need to be accounted for.
Unofficial results from last night showed newcomer Brian Grant won the mayoral race by just eight votes over incumbent Kevin Gibson.
“This is the reason that election night results are not considered official until the certification process has been completed,” said CAO/Clerk William Kolasa. “For the results of an election to have meaning, each legally submitted vote must be counted.”
The extra ballots will be counted tonight at 6:00 p.m.
