Police are investigating a break and enter and assault that occurred in St. Catharines.
Just before 9:00 a.m. today, NRP officers were called to an apartment building near Manchester Avenue and Hampstead Avenue in St. Catharines.
Officers say that the female victim, who received minor injuries, was awoken by a man entering her apartment.
The suspect assaulted the victim, but she was able to escape after scratching him near his eyes.
She called 911 from a neighbour's unit.
The suspect also fled from the scene, and it's believed that he entered her unit by forcing open a sliding door.
There is no allegation of sexual assault.
The man is described as a white male between 30 to 40 years old.
He is a heavy set individual who is between 5'2" and 5'6."
He was wearing a black hoodie, black gloves, light coloured jeans and white low cut shoes.
