York Regional Police Officer Dies in Collision

Police say officer killed on his way to work.

A York Regional Police officer has died following a collision early this morning. 

York Regional Police Chief Jim MacSween says 38 year old Travis Gillespie died in a collision in Markham this morning while driving to work. 

Authorities say the two-vehicle crash occurred in the area of Major Mackenzie East  between Richard Person Drive and Warden Avenue. 

Around 6:00 a.m., officers responded to a collision involving a white Honda Accord and a Porsche Cayenne. 

Gillespie, who was driving the Honda, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The Porsche driver, a 23 year old Markham man, was taken to hospital.
