It was a deadly Canada Day long weekend in Ontario this year.
Niagara OPP Constable Rob Knight says nine people died across the province; on and off the roads.
"Fatal motor vehicle collisions caused five people in total to lose their lives. We even have information that two motorcyclists were involved among those who died. Also we had three drownings over the weekend and one fatal off-road motor vehicle incident."
They were all males and none of the deaths were in Niagara.
Knight says provincial police charged lots of people across Ontario.
"Across the province we had a total of 5,300 speeding charges, 180 stunt or racing charges and over 500 moving violations."
Knight adds they also had about 400 seatbelt charges, 116 distracted drivers and 96 drivers impaired by drugs or alcohol.
