A statement on its website says the YMCA of Niagara is listing the Walker Family YMCA building and property at 25 YMCA Drive for sale as it examines new program delivery options in St. Catharines.
The statement goes on to say the decision was made due to financial pressures.
Officials noting the facility has been experiencing significant membership losses over the past several years, even prior to the pandemic and they expect the number to continue to fall.
As well, they note the building is now 27 years old and has seen rising maintenance costs and will require ongoing capital investments.
As for their child care program, the Y is exploring options to relocate the EarlyON Child and Family Centre, but for now services will continue uninterrupted.
