Earlier this week, Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson told reporters Ottawa has no immediate plans to cut the federal gas tax.
Instead he says his government is taking other measures to help Canadians including increasing federal benefit cheques, cutting child-care costs and increasing Old Age Security and the Canada Workers Benefit.
Economists agree noting high gas prices are the result of supply shortages and they add the best solution is to start increasing production of oil to bring down the price.
