Lori Lococo says life is unaffordable
Making life more affordable.... at the top of a Niagara Falls mayoral candidate's list of priorities if she becomes mayor.
Lori Lococo tells us the problem is how money is spent, adding she'll focus on 0-based budgeting. "Basically, what that means is just starting from scratch, looking at all the programs that we have now, and justifying what are the expenses. What are we getting out of it?"
Another priority is dealing with the provincial government downloading to municipalities. "But, we can't just keep spending money on things that the province should be doing, and some of those examples are homelessness, mental health and addiction, the hospital, public health, the doctors, and hospices."
She stresses the importance of learning about the candidates and voting.
She adds people in the city are not being heard, and property taxes have increased so much in 4-years. "With 8-years experience as a city councillor, and my experience such as my legal government background, and leadership skills, my continuing education... I am the right person, at the right time, for the role of Mayor."
She's in the middle of a program learning about city hall management, which has helped her to this point. "I'm in the process of taking a 4-year diploma with AMCTO, which is the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks, and Treasurers of Ontario."
Jim Diodati is seeking what he says will be his final term as Mayor, but also against Kevin Martineau, Paul Manning and Michael Lucid.
