Federal Conservatives say not to refer to 9-11 as terrorist attack is insulting victims and families
CBC news blasted by the Conservatives over reports CBC reporters have been instructed not to refer to September 11, 2001 events as terrorist attacks, but rather hijackings that led to passenger jet crashes.
Shadow Minister for Canadian Identity and Culture Rachael Thomas said "9-11 was a terrorist attack, plain and simple."
Reports indicate the CBC's Senior Director of Journalistic Standards and Public Trust gave the directive.
Thomas says "If true, this diminishes the reality of what happened, and is an insult to victims and their families".
She further states Canadians deserve a public broadcaster that tells the truth: terrorists murdered thousands of innocent people, and have no difficulty saying that.
