The Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre is growing its Kids First Project, helping kids to speak up
The Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre is doing what it can to help children realize they can speak out if they've been abused.
Development Director Kim Rossi says they've expanded the Kids First Project, in partnership between the DSBN and the Catholic board.
She says it's helping kids realize not to be silent. "There was a recent incident in which a boy came home from school, and he said his best friend asked him to keep a secret. His father explained that we don't keep secrets in this house, and his son fully explained what the secret was, and the police had to be called."
The project is expanding thanks to the David S. Howes fund.
She says it's all about helping kids realize what they should do. "There are good secrets to keep, like things that mom and dad might do at home, and there's not healthy things that kids should be keeping secret. So, giving them the differentiating factors of what's a healthy secret and what's not is also important."
