An advocacy group that has been pressing for the cleanup of the old GM site in the Garden City has been granted intervenor status by the Ontario Superior Court. The Coalition for a Better St. Catharines says the status was granted on Thursday and they can now make submissions to the court about the condition of the site. The owner of the former GM plant on Ontario Street has appealed the city of St. Catharine's order to repair or demolish the buildings. A spokesperson for the advocacy group says they are pleased with the court’s decision and they welcome the opportunity to ensure the community’s concerns about the safety of the buildings will be before the court.
