Town council backed a motion to defer a few years
The Town of Grimsby juggling the budget and voting to put off an indoor pool for a few years.
It was Councillor Delight Davoli's idea to defer, saying it would take considerable time to sort through details such as cost and site.
She understands a lot of people want a pool. "But at this time it is not our most immediate priority as a council. We have many other priorities that we are trying to get underway, most notably the Peach King Centre, and our staff are very deep into launching this particular project."
She added this project might not even get underway until this term of council is over.
She then noted how busy town staff is with getting information, and preparing for other projects.
"We have in front of us, as a council, a $9-million debenture coming up, to support the hospital. Without even knowing what the tender price is yet on the Peach King Centre project, we're looking at an amount in excess of $10-million."
Councillor Veronica Charrois pointed out it wasn't fair to defer due to the work people had put into this idea.
