The Honeymoon Capital of the World considering options
There's a chance the cost to renew marriage vows in Niagara Falls, the Honeymoon Capital of the World, could go up.
Right now it's $59 for a local couple, while visitors pay $100.
City councillor Chris Dabrowski pointed out Niagara Falls is a world class city, with world class impact, and it should not undersell itself. "I would love to see 2 or 3 options, whether it be a package that starts at $150 or $200. Offer up a $500 or $1,000 caveat, with all those options."
Councillor Ruth-Ann Nieuwesteeg agreed, but added there's more important issues that a $59 fee.
She also says it's a special ceremonial event. "It seems like the taste just doesn't seem right, that what's the point of renewing a vow for $59, it just doesn't have the impact or the significance of something very ceremonial. Just from a ceremonial point of view, I think it's very.... cheap."
City staff will look at a number of package options.
