Amid criticism, the company rebrands as Meta.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says the company is rebranding itself as Meta.
Zuckerberg says the chance is being made to help the company embrace its virtual-reality vision.
He says the metaverse is a "virtual environment" where people can meet, work and play, using devices such as smartphone apps, virtual reality headsets or augmented reality glasses.
The company's new ticker symbol, MRVS, will take effect December 1st.
This comes after the release of the Facebook Papers, a document, indicating the company ignored warnings of the negative impact of its algorithms.
Facebook has also been in hot water as of late after a whistleblower told the Wall Street Journal that the company's media networks are spreading hatred and misinformation around the world.
