More residents in several Niagara communities will soon gain access to high-speed internet.
The federal and provincial governments are investing $252 million to bring high-speed internet to areas such as Wainfleet, West Lincoln, Grimsby, Pelham and Lincoln.
The announcement was made by Minister of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth Bardish Chagger and Kinga Surma, Ontario's Minister of Infrastructure.
The investment is being made as part of a joint federal and provincial government agreement to support large-scale, fibre-based projects.
The partnership hopes to bring high-speed internet to all areas in the province by 2025.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff says the money means more Niagara residents will be able to access high-speed internet.
"Since first being elected, I promised to advocate for investments in rural broadband, and this week's funding demonstrates that concrete action is being taken for those living in rural parts of the riding. I will keep working with my provincial and federal counterparts to invest in rural broadband in Niagara."
Canada-wide, over 890,000 rural and remote households are expected to have high-speed internet thanks to investments made by the federal government.
