It looks like winter has arrived here in Niagara. There is a winter storm warning in effect for northern Niagara, and a snowfall warning has been issued for southern Niagara.
We could be in for 15 to 30 centimetres today, depending where you are in the Region.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Peter Kimbell says this is very out of the ordinary for this time of the year.
"All of the precipitation is falling as snow because it's so cold. Normally it would be falling as rain for this time of the year but because the air mass so cold, it's the white stuff."
Kimbell says the snow could be sticking around for a while.
"We do expect some milder air to return to the area next week. We should be above zero by mid-week next week. But flushing away all of that snow is going to be a pretty big challenge and I can't promise that it's going to happen this year."
