Update: Driver of pickup truck has been charged, after the collision yesterday morning on QEW

Police say the 33-year old driver of the pickup truck, from Niagara Falls, New York, has been charged with:
Detached part, and operating an unsafe vehicle.

Tragedy on the QEW late this morning in which a 53-year old man from the United States is dead.
Provincial police say a wheel came off a Niagara bound pickup truck, just as it was approaching the skyway bridge.
Sergeant Kerry Schmidt with the horrible details that followed. "That wheel bounced into the Toronto bound lanes of the QEW, colliding with a Toronto bound vehicle with 2 occupants. The 53-year old male driver from the United States was pronounced deceased at the scene, the 52-year old male passenger was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries."
He says the wheel then bounced beyond the barrier into the city.
The QEW will stay closed in both directions for several hours. "We have a full closure in place... you will be forced off at Niagara Street, you can stay on there until Dunkirk to get back on the QEW, and go over the skyway. And, if you're going Toronto bound, you'll be forced off at Glendale."
