Single detached homes make up 83 percent of the total housing stock in Fort Erie.
A majority of the households in town fall into the core housing category, with 14 percent of them earning a single income less than $29,500 per year.
This is all included in the Fort Erie Housing Needs Study.
The report also says a majority of the new housing that is being built consists of single-detached homes, and they probably won't meet the needs of the future population.
After looking over the report, Town Council decided to pass three recommendations that were made by the Affordable Housing Committee;
- Regulating the type of housing that is built through its Official Plan
- Creating financial incentives for the development of priority housing types
- Facilitating partnerships with stakeholders to advance housing objectives that are common to multiple stakeholders.
