Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland has released details of a government plan to address inflation.
During a speech to the Empire Club in Toronto, Freeland announced the government's "affordability plan", which totals $8.9 billion this year.
The measures include a planned $1.7 billion boost to the Canada Workers Benefit, and a ten percent increase in Old Age Security.
Freeland also cited the federal government's plan to provide free dental care to children and residents earning less than $90,000 a year.
The federal government has been under increasing pressure to provide reassurance to residents as costs of living continue to rise.
Freeland also emphasized the role the Bank of Canada plays in targeting inflation, saying it will need help from the federal government to tackle supply constraints.
