Fundraising Raffle for Birchway Begins

Picture supplied

A very important raffle began yesteday in Niagara, Birchway Niagara's 2026 Allied Against Abuse Daily Raffle, aimed to keep beds open for those in need.

Director of Development Amanda Braet says the $10 tickets went on sale, with an opportunity to win cash and prizes throughout November.

She stresses they have 45 beds to keep operating.  "Of those 45, 15 of those are open and functioning only because of the generosity of our community.  So, 100% of the funding for those 15 beds comes from donations, and fundraising initiatives like the Allied Against Abuse Daily Raffle."

She adds the fundraising budget is over $1-million a year, along with some provincial help.

The Niagara Region is seeking to open a new shelter.

She adds online tours are available.  "We remain full, and our services are needed now more than ever.  We've seen an uptick in all of our services, so we just want to make sure we meet that growing need, so everyone has somewhere safe to turn to, or the resources needed to rebuild their life."

She credits all the businesses that have offered cash and prizes to be drawn over November.
