MPP Wayne Gates says animals should be removed from Marineland
Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates is calling for changes to Marineland.
He says the park needs a new path forward without animals.
This comes after reports that 14 whales and a dolphin have died at the park over the past four years.
Gates says Marineland needs to be held accountable, and animals at the park should be moved to sanctuaries.
He adds a new path for the park is a step in the right direction for the city's tourism industry.
"We need to look at all options for a new path forward for Marineland - one that stops putting animals in harm’s way. Marineland should be restructured without animals, and the existing animals at Marineland should be moved to appropriate and safe sanctuaries. A move in that direction would be a positive step in the right direction for the vibrant tourism industry of Niagara Falls, and the countless people who benefit from it - visitors, locals, and workers alike."
Marineland has denied any link between the deaths of the animals and their living conditions.
