Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates is calling on Premier Doug Ford to deploy resources to COVID-19 hotspots in the agricultural sector.
Twenty workers have tested positive at Pioneer Flower Farms in St. Catharines and 164 workers have tested positive at a Scotlynn Group Farm in Norfolk County.
Outbreaks have also been declared in Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent and Elgin County.
Gates says his thoughts are with the migrant workers and contract agricultural workers who have been affected.
“My heart is heavy on behalf of those who are sick, many of them far from their homes and families."
He says the province should provide hotel or motel rooms for isolation, mobile testing units and ensure access to clean water and sanitation.
Gates is the Workplace Health and Safety critic for the Official Opposition.
