A Niagara Falls MPP says the Premier needs to do more to help control the spread of COVID-19 in Niagara.
Wayne Gates says frontline health care workers are worried about being forced to implement protocols to determine the priority of patients' treatment.
"Frontline health care heroes are worried they’ll be forced to implement the triage protocol they’ve been briefed on. They don’t want to make the impossible decision of who is more worthy of life-saving care, like ventilators or trained ICU nurses."
Gates also says that the Ford government seems more concerned with how stakeholders may react, as opposed to taking necessary action to save lives.
"This government calls them heroes but refuses to listen to public health experts and take the actions needed to protect people, help nurses and save lives. Will the premier immediately implement provincial paid sick days, ensure paid time off to get a vaccine, close non-essential businesses and get direct financial support to workers and small businesses?"
To date, Niagara has 387 COVID-19 related deaths, and last week, Niagara Health announced the ICU capacity is at 104 percent.
