It all started with shortages of TP, now there is a global shortage of semi conductor computer chips.
Yesterday, General Motors announcing it is extending production cuts at three North American plants, including the Ingersoll CAMI Plant, until at least mid-March due to the shortage.
The chip shortage has affected many automakers, including Toyota, Volkswagen, Stellantis (formerly Fiat Chrysler) Ford Motor Co, Renault, Subaru, Nissan , Honda and Mazda.
Stellantis is closing its Windsor plant for three weeks this month.
There are about 1,300 chips in a gas powered car and over 3,500 on average in an electric vehicle.
Experts say the reason for the shortage, is with so much downtime because of the pandemic, we are buying more tech like laptops, tablets, and games consoles and as a result there are fewer chips available for global auto players.
No word of any production cuts yet at GM plants in St. Catharines or Tonawanda.
