Niagara Parks using goats to help with Gonder's Flats swamp
Once again, as with last year, if you're wandering through Gonder's Flats in Fort Erie and see goats feeding, don't disturb them.
Niagara Parks has brought back the Green Grazers initiative that uses goats to get rid of phragmites, which is an invasive plant species.
The goats were there last year for a brief time, and successfully removed the plants, allowing for the naturally growing swamp to flourish.
Niagara Parks adds a local farmer, as done last year, dropped the goats off yesterday, and they'll graze until Friday, as opposed to using chemicals to grow the swamp.
Although the area is open to the public, don't approach the goats as they are shy and sensitive.
