HWDSB defying provincial directive
Hamilton’s public school board has to keep masks in place for students and staff until April 15th.
This despite the Ministry of Education telling boards they must follow the provincial directive and not put their own mask mandates in place.
Board Trustee Elizabeth Wong tells the Hamilton Spec “We have a responsibility. I hope that we can show that HWDSB truly cares.”
Meantime, Niagara’s public and Catholic school boards say they will go along with the decision to end mask mandates in schools and when students return after March Break masks will be optional in both schools and on school buses.
Board officials noting “All students and staff will be supported in whichever person decision they make.”
Brock University is keeping its mask mandate on campus until the end of the term.
Niagara College has issued a statement saying it is reviewing the announcement and consulting with public health authorities, before making a final decision on whether to end or keep its mask mandate.
