Elective surgeries postponed as hospitals try to deal with increasing admissions of patients with COVID-19.
In a statement, Niagara Health President and Interim CEO Lynn Guerriero says "We understand the impact the postponement of surgeries will have on our patients, their families and caregivers, and we’re very sorry for this unfortunate situation."
Surgeons began notifying patients of the cancellation of their surgeries on Friday.
Niagara Health asks patients not to call the hospital or their surgeon.
They will reschedule surgeries as soon as they are able to do so.
The NHS adds "right now, we have capacity in our Intensive Care. But to ensure patients across the province receive the life-saving care they need, hospitals in harder-hit areas of Ontario are transferring patients to hospitals with critical care capacity, which includes Niagara Health."
