Hospitals Warn of Longer Wait Times

Meeting in Fort Erie with local politicians calling for 24/7 emergency service restoration at Douglas Memorial

Niagara Health one of several Ontario hospital groups warning of longer wait times in their emergency departments. 

There was a public meeting last night in Fort Erie, demanding around the clock services be restored to Douglas Memorial hospital.

Many hospitals are advising patients to consider alternatives to the E-R if their condition isn't urgent.

Markham Stouffville Hospital is seeing a nearly 200 per cent increase in patient volumes from the same period pre-pandemic, officials pointing to respiratory illnesses.

The Canadian Medical Association says a lack of access to primary care is a major factor in ERs overflowing across the country.
