Listen for interview with Budapest Bakery about visit to Niagara on the Lake
If you happened to be in downtown Niagara on the Lake last week, and saw a number of black SUVs mid to late afternoon, that's because the President of Hungary made a visit.
Katalin Novak stopped by the Budapest Bakery, with owner Todd Kane telling us a woman from the Hungarian consulate let him and his wife Anette know a visitor was coming. "Who's coming? And she said 'The President'. And we looked at each other with our jaws on the floor. She said 'The President's going to be here, there's going to be a security detail, and there's probably going to be about 25 to 30 people.'"
He says she stayed about 45 minutes, enjoying the Hungarian bakery.
The black SUVs on Queen Street were just part of the security entourage.
"Security had blocked off the entrance, and the back door. They had walked through the store ahead of time. She came in with her son, and she was so nice and kind. She shook our hands," the bakery shop owner says.
He adds they talked about the pride of bringing Hungarian culture to the area.
