The federal government has denied the park's request
The federal government has denied a request from Marineland to send the remaining 30 beluga whales it has to China.
Fisheries Minister Joanne Thompson says Ottawa will not grant an export permit to ship them to the Chimelong Ocean Kingdom aquarium.
She says approving the request would mean a continued life in captivity for the whales along with a return to entertainment which goes against a 2019 law in Canada that bans both.
Twenty whales have died at Marineland since 2019 and those that remain are the last to be held in captivity in Canada.
