Muhammed Shafique wants better resources for trucking companies crossing border
A Niagara Falls mayoral candidate says he wants to see more shopping malls, infrastructure, and warehousing in the area.
Muhammed Shafique tells us part of the problem is the lack of trucking companies in the region, to bring high tech companies' resources here, but there is potential.
"We are right here at the border. We can make custom border warehouses. All the trucks that are coming from the US, they can enter here and have no delay at the border."
The mayoral candidate shies away from solely focusing on tourism, adding that needs to be put on auto-pilot.
He also points to what he says is unemployment in cities like Brantford, Cornwall or Belleville, adding the unemployment of Niagara is too high. "Why? We are right now in a very blessed area... temperature wise, accessiblity, road connectivity. In the last 15 years, no industrial park has been developed."
The chemical engineer has a law degree, and says his rich experience with over 200 industries will help bring business here.
We'll have more Niagara Falls mayoral candidates this week.
Also, tune in election night, Monday, for all the results.
