Niagara Centre MPP Jeff Burch says land values of Conservative party donors are rising due to the party handing out Ministry Zoning Orders.
A local MPP is accusing Ontario's Conservatives of giving out Municipal Zoning Order to friends of the party for profit.
Niagara Centre MPP Jeff Burch, who is the NDP's Municipal Affairs critic, says in 2020, an MZO was issued for land in Oro-Medonte after it was purchased by a subsidiary of Molded Precision Components for $2.65 million.
This past February, the company sold the land for $26.3 million, listing the MZO as a selling point.
The company has contracts with the province to manufacture personal protective equipment, and has hosted tours with several PC politicians.
"Yet again, Ford has tried to make his buddies even more rich by issuing an MZO, " said Burch. "All this MZO did was try to make Ford’s buddies ten times richer, no matter what it costs the rest of us."
MZOs override all local and municipal regional zoning, giving developers more power to build on farmland, wetlands, and lands that are protected or environmentally sensitive.
Burch says the township of Oro-Medonte wants the order revoked.
