Jennie Stevens wants paid parking in apartment buildings stopped, helping people like PSWs
A local politician wants to eliminate paid parking for visitors in multi-unit apartment buildings.
St. Catharines NDP MPP Jennie Stevens is introducing a motion to stop what she calls corporate landlords from charging for parking.
She calls out Homestead Land Holdings, for installing meters, which means in some cases personal support workers for seniors have to pay.
This leads to some of them turning down patients, and skipping visits.
St. Catharines resident Steve Walton says these buildings are peoples' homes, and it's no different than a parking metre in a driveway for corporate greed.
Also today, Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates brought forth, for the 2nd time, a motion to have care givers at home be paid, some of who he said quit their jobs to take on this task.
