The province is investing money to bring two new elementary schools to Niagara and new child care spaces in Grimsby.
Good news for families in Niagara Falls, Beamsville and Grimsby.
The Ontario government is investing $15.9 million towards building a new elementary school in South Niagara Falls, $10.1 for a new school in Beamsville, and $2.8 million to create new child care spaces at Lakeview Public School in Grimsby.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff was joined by Education Minister Stephen Lecce for the announcement today.
"In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made safer schools a priority, which is why we continue to invest in modern and accessible learning spaces with improved ventilation," said Lecce. "These investments are part of our multiyear plan to build, expand, and update schools and child care spaces across our province. They will leave a lasting legacy that benefits working families for years to come."
At Lakeview Public School, the money from the province will cover the cost of one infant room, two toddler rooms and three preschool rooms, which will accommodate 88 child care spaces.
The new District School Board of Niagara elementary school at Kalar and McLeod Roads in the Falls will provide 21 regular, 5 Kindergarten, and two special education classrooms.
As well, the new Niagara Catholic School in Beamsville will have 421 spaces for elementary school students.
It will also include a spacious learning commons, a gymnasium, one infant room, one toddler room and one preschool room.
The investments are part of the Ontario government's commitment to provide $14 billion to support school construction over ten years.
