The Niagara region heard it's doing better than the province, country
A decent economic update for the Niagara region by its Economic and Research Analyst.
Blake Landry told the Corporate services committee recently people with higher incomes keep moving to the region, while home prices are slightly improving.
He adds the multi-year construction of the extra Garden City skyway helps. "So, if the people working on that project, live in Niagara, that would be captured in the Niagara employment data. If they live outside of Niagara, but are working on that project, that employment data would be captured in the area in which they live."
He says the Niagara region is fairing better than the province and country overall.
That also includes the battery plant in Port Colborne and twinning of the skyway bridge underway.
Councillor Tim Rigby, though, says there are other options instead of the added bridge. "Certainly, with the extension of the 406, bringing the 406 across the canal, and moving directly to Fort Erie, and providing far better traffic issues."
He says no one likes to talk about the 406 as an option to twinning the skway.
