Niagara Health says it's taking steps to address a global shortage of epidural catheters.
The device provides pain medication to labour and delivery patients.
"Providing patients with safe, quality healthcare is our priority," reads a statement from the organization. "We are communicating directly with patients to let them know that we will work with them, their obstetricians, midwives and other care providers to ensure they have access to pain management support during childbirth."
Niagara Health says it is looking at managing the supply, and are working with healthcare partners to conserve and share resources while identifying alternative vendors.
