Thanks to new technology in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Niagara Health's tiniest patients have access to enhanced care.
NICU team members at the St. Catharines site can now connect to specialists at McMaster Children's Hospital through video.
The video connection will allow the McMaster team to view the patient, their vital signs and other important details.
These consultations previously occurred over the phone.
Dr. Madan Roy, Deputy Chief of Pediatrics at MCH and Chief of Pediatrics at Niagara Health says the technology will lead to better care for patients.
"The ability for the Niagara Health and MCH teams to work together as if they were in the same room is another significant advancement in infant care in Niagara."
The video technology could also potentially reduce the need for patients to be transferred from Niagara to Hamilton for further care.
