Jeff Burch, Niagara Centre MPP and NDP Municipal Affairs critic, is calling out the Ford government over several Minister's Zoning Orders.
He is asking the Committee on General Government to conduct a review of the orders, saying that an NDP analysis shows that PC party donors and allies are set to benefit from 19 out of the 38 such orders authorized by Premier Doug Ford's government this year.
"People deserve an explanation for why Doug Ford’s allies and political backers are getting ahead with these MZOs, while everyday working families are paying the price, having the environment around them destroyed. This is about our children and grandchildren’s future."
Burch went on to criticize Minister's Zoning Orders, calling them a "nuclear option that ignores local decision-making processes."
Historically, such orders have been made where there are no existing zoning rules or local planning authorities.
