Niagara Region Public Health has announced that they have started using a text messaging service.
The service is being used as part of a provincial system to contact postive cases and their close contacts.
The one-way messages will be sent to individuals who have either tested postive for COVID-19 or have been identified as a close contact.
People who test positive will get a message that has a link to a secure web-based form where they can fill in their symptoms and close contacts.
The form, which is voluntary to complete, will also provide guidance on how to self-isolate.
Messages will only be sent to individuals who's numbers were provided to the lab.
Anyone who wishes to opt-out can do so by replying with the word 'STOP.'
Anyone with questions about a text message they have received can call the Niagara Region Public Health's Coronavirus line at 905-688-8248 or 1-888-505-6074, press 7.
