Tips offered on ways to reduce garbage
It's Waste Reduction Week, and the Niagara Region is encouraging residents to do their part.
Amber Schmucker, Education Coordinator for Waste Management Services, has some tips on how you can reduce waste at home.
"Pre-plan your grocery list and make sure that you're not building in food waste into your grocery list," she says.
She also says residents can make a difference by using their green bin, but you need to make sure you are using proper compost bags.
"One mistake that we see a lot right now is the wrong type of bag in the green bin. You can't use plastics bags like grocery bags to line your kitchen catcher or go into your green bin. It needs to be a certified compostable bin."
This week, the Niagara Region will host information booths to teach residents more about reducing waste.
Booths will be held at the following times and locations:
- Meridian Center on October 19th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
