Acting medical officer of health says hospitalizations have more than doubled
A reminder from Niagara's acting medical officer of health concerning increased cases of COVID-19 this fall.
The Standard is reporting Dr. Mustafa Hirji tweeted that a new wave, driven by new, more dangerous Omicron variants, is more than doubling hospitalizations in recent weeks.
He's urging people to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
He adds there are signs of the virus increasing in wastewater, not only in Niagara, but provincially. There are also more cases in long-term care homes.
The Peterborough, Ottawa and Algoma areas issued alerts last week of rising case numbers.
